Rich Points Web Design
I'm currently not doing web work as I am busy as director of Community Cycles.Accessibility Accessibility and web standards have much in common as they both ensure that web pages are available and usable to the largest possible number of readers, visitors and donors. This includes designing for visually and motor impaired users who use special software to surf the web. Designing for accessibility also allows access to non traditional web devices such as palm pilots and web phones.
A popular feature I use to increase accessibility to my pages gives visitors the option to increase the size of the text on the page.
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) I specialize in transforming traditionally coded html pages that use bulky tables, images and inline styles to pure, lightweight Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) designs. CSS provides significant advantages over older website technology including; cleaner design, lighter faster loading pages, higher search engine visibility, increased accessibility, alternate print style sheets for clean printing from any browser, cross browser/device compatibility and increased site wide control.
Web StandardsThe web pages I design validate XHTML 1.0 Transitional according to W3C standards.
Server Side Includes (SSI)SSI is a technology that builds a web page from several web page "snippets" providing greater site wide flexibility. For example if the navigational headings require an update this can be accomplished by editing just one navigation "snippet". This technology in conjunction with a strong CSS template allow for maximum site wide control.
Browser Compatibility My pages will render nearly identical in all modern browsers. Browsers such as Netscape Navigator 4.79 and earlier will render the pages' content, but not the design. This is a compromise that allows all users to see the content of the web site without designing separate pages for older browsers. With CSS, a separate style sheet can be developed for PDA's, mobile phones and other portable devices if desired.
Search Engine Optimization I use a combination of techniques to maximize high rankings on Google and other major search engines. I can do a lot with search engine promotion however, good content correlates with high rankings, good page design enhances the content and search engine returns. If you are managing a website, it is very important to understand how Google ranks a site. If you're interested in knowing more, read about Google's page rank.
Web Forms Forms use a script or a database located on the web server rather than a hyperlinked email address. This prevents spam spiders and robots from indexing your address. If you would like to post a visible email address on your site I can use a number of techniques to prevent spiders from getting your address. This technique will help keep your inbox spam-free.
PHP PHP is an html embedded scripting language used to create dynamic Web pages. It is often used in conjunction with a MySQL online database.
Site StatisticsMonitoring site statistics is very important in understanding the details of what kind of traffic your site is getting. Site statistics are very important for monitoring the site for effectiveness this stats information is important when making developmental decisions on your site. I prefer a freeware program called AWStats.
